Haworthia obserata

Haworthia obserata, TL, Brandrivier
 Haworthia obserata G.M.Marx

obserata: related to its hiding in habitat.

H. obserata is very interesting plant from area West of Garcia´s Pass. It grows semi-burried in the soil, rosette has up to 6 leaves, remains solitairy. Leaves are dull green, sometimes with soft theeth on margins. Bayer put this plant under multifolia, but in reality there isn´t much they have in common, only the geographic situation. Flower type and period is much more closer to mirabilis group. It flowers five months after breueri and other elements in the region.

Distribution map
H. obserata is known from two localities, where the second locality was discovered by Andries Cilliers on farm Springfontein. Here plants are a bit more robust than in TL. Closest neighbors are H. multifolia and H. breueri, few km to West grows maraisii as well.

H. obserata is not yet much known in cultivation, which is a pity. Growing conditions are same as with breueri or picta. Propagation must be done by seeds.

Known localities:
  • Brandrivier (3320DD)
  • Springfontein (3321CC)
