Haworthia pehlemanniae

H. pehlemanniae, Laingsburg

Haworthia pehlemanniae C.L.Scott

pehlemanniae: for Inge Pehlemann.

H. pehlemanniae is smaller arachnoidea like species from Laingsburg area. Size of the rosette is 3-5cm and remains solitairy. Vegetatively it reminds H. arachnoidea var. scabrispina, which is growing in some cases nearby at the same locality, but it has more greyish color and if you touch the rosette - it is more soft as normal arachnoidei, where var. scabrispina is very rough.

It occurs on shale in relatively exposed situations as opposed to H. arachnoidea var. scabrispina, which generally prefers cooler south slopes. Form from Koup Station was described by Hayashi as H. albispina. It grows virtually together with scabrispina, it is same "hard on touch", but the flowers are same as H. pehlemanniae. It is much more whitish, when scabrispina in age is becoming more yellowish (see separed article).

Distribution map

You can easily distinguish them because of the typical flower - (see photo below) it is brownish.

H. pehlemanniae remains usually solitary and propagation must be done by seeds. In cultivation it needs to stay more in shade.
