H. modesta is a proliferous, moderate variegated species with fewer leaves. Leaves are quite turgid with some evidence of translucence along the margins and at the leaf tips. It grows in small soil pockets in rock crevices, usually quite high.

Distribution map

H. modesta is growing in the area around Potberg, two known localities are from Kathoek and from Potberg Mountain. It is closely associated with the coastal limestones.

H. modesta is a very easy species, which can be propagated by offsetts.
