Haworthia variegata var. petrophila M.B.Bayer

petrophila: stone-loving

H. variegata
var. petrophila is proliferous species with numerous dark green leaves. They are relatively short, incurved and strongly variegated, margins and keel spined. It is closely associated with the coastal limestones. The leaves of this species are rather slender compared to the more deltoid shape in the H. modesta. The denser and stronger spination is reminiscent of H. herbacea.

Distribution map

H. variegata var. petrophila is known only from small area around Karsrivier. Bayer add this species under H. rossouwii together with H. calcarea. I keep it here as a separed species, because to me it makes more sence to keep it with variegata group than with rossouwii/serrata. H. variegata var. petrophila is very easy species, which can by propagated by offsetts.
