Haworthia variegata Bolus

H. variegata is a proliferous species with long, erect, slender, dark green leaves, with margins and keel spined and strongly variegated. The relationship with other species is with H. chloracantha, H. floribunda or H. monticola, but the latter one has incurved leaf tips. It is closely associated with the coastal limestones.

Distribution map

H. variegata is known only from area between Riversdale and Stilbaai. Population near Botterkloof is forming huge clumps on the rocks, at the other locality it can grow more solitary in sandy soil, well hidden among the fynbos vegetation and stones. It co-occur seldom with H. turgida. H. variegata comes from winter rainfall area, so it can makes some troubles in cultivation. But if it is carefully watered, it grows without any major problems. Propagation can by done by offsetts or by seed.
