Haworthia pulchella M.B.Bayer

pulchella: very beautiful.

H. pulchella is a small, compact, dark green species. The leaves are armed with pronounced white spines. It is seldom proliferous and is very slow-growing species. The most likely relative is H. wittebergensis, primarily on the basis of distribution and the moderate coriaceous texture of the leaves.

Distribution map

H. pulchella is growing in the Touws River - Laingsburg - Hoekvandieberg triagle. The distribution area is from Anysberg in the east, to west and south of Touws River. It is growing always in the shade and is winter growing species. At Spitskop, near Anysberg is growing small form, which is forming small clumps.

H. pulchella is not easy to grow, possibly because of its winter-rainfall distribution. It needs to be grown in more shady condition a be patient, it is a slow growing species. Propagation should be done by seed.
