Haworthiopsis nigra var. diversifolia

H. nigra var. diversifolia, N of Leeu Gamka

Haworthiopsis nigra var. diversifolia (V.Poelln.) Uitewaal

H. nigra var. diversifolia grows on the western side of H. nigra distribution, from Leeu Gamka in the West up to Beaufort West in the East. It grows solitairy or forms small clumps where nigra var. nigra usually forms larger clusters. It seeks moer shady position under the bushes or amongst stones, the body is well covered with dust from the soil around.

Distribution map

In this variety the tubercles are flattened and tend to be greyish in color, while the leaves are shorter and more closely adherent to each other.

H. nigra var. diversifolia seems to be slower and bit more difficult (but may be only in my collection).

Diversifikation needs lower temp. Then it thrives without a problem.... On my first location I lived in a city on 350 m above sea level .... And I had problems with this species... Now since 2012 on 1000m above sea level no plant has died anymore.... Here it they get even more water and growing faster...! I think cooler night temps and not so hot days are the clue but maybe Ian wrong.... Cheers....
