Distribution map |
Var. major usually grows on North or Northwest slopes, amongst grass and small stones. Because of the same colour as the grass, it is not always easy to spot. Hayashi and Breuer use a name H. kondoi for this species (because of not using variets in their classifications). Recently was descovered by Bayer new locality further NW of Sellendam. Here plants looks different, almost like variegata, with white dots on leaves and more open rosette.
