Haworthia turgida Haw.
turgida: swollen.
H. turgida is stemless, proliferous species. Rosettes are around 5 cm and with numerous leaves, usually grows in larger clusters. Colour is yellowish green, in sun it turns reddish. It grows on steep rocky slopes, always above running water - same like cymbiformis does. Forms, which occurs on shale are more robust than the sandstone ones.

H. turgida with its varieties is generally common in area from Bredasdorp in the West up to Herbetsdale in the East. Var. turgida grows from Swellendam, Heidelberg to Riversdale and Albertinia. Leaves are shorter and more recurved than at longibracteata. Around Heidelberg are growing some intermediate forms with heidelbergensis. Form from Tradouw Pass was described as 'caespitosa'.
