Haworthia angustifolia, Hill View, Grahamstown
Haworthia angustifolia var. angustifolia Haw.

angustifolia: narrow-leaved

H. angustifolia comes from Eastern Cape. It is a modest species, which can be very easily propagated by offsetts. It is a small clump-forming species with long narrow leaves. It has frequently been confused with H. chloracantha, but it is a softer species and the marginal teeth are smaller and more closely spaced.

The Fish River is the eastern limit of distribution, Western borders are Zuurberg Mountains.

Map of distribution

H. angustifolia is growing among grass, in rock cracks or under small bushes. Sometimes only leave tips are visible above the soil - this is typical for var. paucifolia. In Howiesonspoort near Grahamstown are known hybrids with H. cymbiformis - it was described as H. perplexa V.Poelln. This species was first introduced probably by Bowie to Kew in 1824.

Haworthia angustifolia - NE. Swartwaterpoort

This is an interesting form with blueish leave color. It should be var. altissima, but this plants seems to be "the normal one."
