scottii: in honour of Colonel Scott

Haworthia arachnoidea 'scottii' is small form of arachnoidea, it has 3-4 cm in diameter, always solitary. Leaves are numerous, colour vary from dark green to black-green with a purplish tinge. Some has teeth, others not. As I have observed at several localities, the ratio is usually 50% to 50%.

Distribution map

It grows on low exposed slopes on Gamka East road area. This country is very heavily used for ostriches, but luckily there are still few undestroeyd areas, where this attractive plant grows. I.Breuer described this plant as independent species. Arachnoidea complex s a very huge and variable group of plants. You can have many names (like 50-60) or just "one" name. I will try to keep the number here as low as possible (=meaningful for me).

H. arachnoidea 'scottii' is not yet fully widespread in collections, but I think in few years time there will be enough material around. Cultivation is same as with other arachnoidea species - more shady conditions. Propagation is by seed only. It is quite slow plant, but in time you get very attractive specimens!
