Haworthia marumiana Uitew.

H. marumiana is small, clumps forming species from Great Karoo. Leaves are dark green to purple in colour, with small spines on margins and keel, with reticulate pattern. In nature it prefers higher altitude, very often on steep rocky slopes. It prefers more shade position in rock crevices or under the bushes.

Distribution map

H. marumiana has quite large distribution area from Queenstown in the East up to Beaufort West area in the West. Eastern forms, for example from Penhoek Pass, are more robust. Plants in the West are generally smaller with more prominent leave reticulation. Around Graaff-Reinet grows var. batesiana, which resembles marumiana, but the coulour is brighter green with no spines on the leaves. At Tierberg, NE of Prince Albert is growing very interesting small form of marumiana/archeri like plants, which Breuer & Hayashi described as ‘marmorata’ (see separed article).

H. marumiana is very common in cultivation. It forms large clusters and propagation is easiest by cuttings.
