Haworthia odetteae 'odyssei' (M.Hayashi)

odyssei: reminiscent odetteae

H. odyssei was described by M. Hayashi in Haworthia Study journal in 2005. Main characteristics are larger size of the rosette (comparing with H. oddetteae), dark green colour and non-translucent leaves. Rosette can be up to 6cm in diameter. This plant was originally found by Breuer&Cumming and name capillaris was used for it. Later Hayashi used name capillaris for bolusii/odetteae plants from SE of Pearston (MBB7021) and described plants from Skietfontein as odyssei.

For now I keep it as 'form' of odetteae, because the differences to keep it separed are too minor. Bayer treats this element as bolusii.

Distribution map

H. odyssei is known only from one locality SW of Pearston, on the Eastern border of odetteae distribution range. On the locality it looks like normal odetteae, but in cultivation it grows larger.

Growing conditons are same other bolusii group, it doesn´t like direct sun. Propagation is mainly by seed.

Known locality:
  • Skietfontein (3225CD)
