H. glauca var. herrei is smaller glauca elements. It differs mainly by longer, thinner stemms, usually with tubercles, in some cases with spreading leaves. In nature it forms clusters, often hidden in dense bushes which protects them against predators.

Distribution map

H. glauca var. herrei distribution area is between Willowmore, Steytlerville and futher SE towards Port Elizabeth. Type locality is at Campherpoort. Very interesting form is reported from Kabouga area, where high up the mountains grows small form of glauca, which almost resembles coarctata. I included it here under this variety, but the real status is questionable. Another different form comes from Kirkwood, where the leaves are more greenish and more ovate, for now I keep this form under var. glauca.

H. glauca var. herrei is well know in cultivation, it grows without any problems like other similar elements. Propagation can be easily done by cuttings.
